Royal On The Park Review: Disappointing Five-Star Experience in Brisbane
I recently traveled to Brisbane for a work event held at Royal on the Park Hotel. After reading reviews and checking their website, I decided to splurge on a stay for the sake of convenience. However, my experience left me questioning whether this Brisbane hotel truly deserves its five-star rating.
First Impressions – A Dated Luxury Hotel
The hotel’s decor felt dark and outdated—once luxurious, but now heavy and stifling. While the front desk staff were welcoming and helpful, my ride in a faded, slow elevator hinted at what was to come.
Room Quality – Spacious but Showing Its Age
Upon entering my hotel room, I noticed several cosmetic issues:
✅ Gaps where the carpet met the bathroom tiles
✅ A bathroom door that didn’t open fully
✅ Worn-out carpeting in some areas
✅ A stiff, difficult-to-use wardrobe
While the room was clean and spacious, these signs of wear and tear made it clear that a refurbishment is overdue.
The bed, however, was incredible—massive and extremely comfortable. If Royal on the Park were rated as a three-star hotel, these flaws would be acceptable. But at five stars, I expected much more.
Lack of 5-Star Amenities
Despite its rating, Royal on the Park lacks many standard five-star features:
🚫 No 24-hour room service – The hotel provides an iPad for ordering food, but it didn’t work. I ordered a club sandwich, waited 40 minutes, then called room service—only to find that my order never went through. Why offer a tool that doesn’t function?
🚫 Limited TV options – The hotel TV only offers free-to-air channels. Not a dealbreaker, but I expect more variety in a premium hotel.
🚫 Disappointing food quality – The club sandwich was stale with a mix of hot and cold ingredients, making for an unpleasant meal. The menu selection was also very limited.
Final Verdict – Not Worth the Price
With high room rates and a five-star label, I expected better. Unfortunately, Royal on the Park Brisbane does not live up to its rating, lacking the luxury and premium amenities that guests expect.
Would I stay here again? No.
Would I recommend it? Also no.
