The Russell Hotel Sydney – A Quirky, Character-Filled Stay in The Rocks
What a hidden gem this place was! While traveling with my son, we needed a budget-friendly hotel near Sydney’s cruise terminal, and The Russell Hotel in The Rocks turned out to be the perfect choice.
A Hotel Like No Other
This historic Sydney hotel is packed with character and charm—unlike any place I’ve ever stayed before!
Room Options at The Russell Hotel
The hotel offers a variety of accommodations, including:
🏨 Superior King
🏨 Heritage Queen
🏨 Economy Single
We chose the Economy Twin Room, which was surprisingly light and spacious, featuring:
✔️ Two comfortable single beds
✔️ Ceiling fans & heater
✔️ TV, minibar & tea/coffee facilities
✔️ Bathrobes & hairdryer
✔️ Iron & ironing board
The Quirky Twist – Shared Bathrooms
Here’s where the quirkiness begins—the bathroom is located outside the rooms and is shared with one or two other rooms. At first, I was hesitant, but I wanted to try something unique and different from our usual stays. It turned out to be so much fun!
Everything is fully lockable and secure, so safety was never a concern.
Location & Atmosphere
🌆 Overlooks George Street – Right in the heart of The Rocks
🍹 Bar & restaurant downstairs – Great for a relaxing drink or meal
🏛️ Feels like stepping into history – The winding hallways, small landings, and dozens of rooms reminded me of an old Victorian boarding school-turned-hotel, straight out of a classic novel or movie!
Final Verdict – A Must-Stay for History & Character Lovers
I absolutely loved my stay at The Russell Hotel Sydney and can’t wait to return! If you love quirky, historic hotels with plenty of personality, this is a must-visit in The Rocks.
