My son and I had the opportunity to go out for breakfast, and chose a favourite place of ours, Piccolo’s. They have recently had a change of ownership and I was curious to see if it had affected their quality of food at all.
I am pleased to say that it has not, the food was just as nice as it has always been. Their portion sizes however are insane, if we go again, we will just order the one dish and share it!
My son ordered this Shake It Daddy milkshake, which as nice as it was, he was unable to finish. The pretzels, popcorn, caramel, and other sweet bits went really well with the chocolate milkshake underneath. I understand this was a limited run milkshake, they are now offering an Oreo one.
This is my big breakfast, and the poached eggs were cooked exactly as I like them, ooey and gooey on the inside. If I were to order this again I would request no mushrooms, as they literally took up half the plate, and I am not the greatest fan of mushrooms.
My son ordered a chicken parmigiana, which usually comes with chips and a salad on the side, but at my sons request they held off on the salad. The chicken parmigiana is on top of the chips, so all the yummy sauce can soak through, and it also keeps the chips nice and warm.
We also ordered a latte and some raisin toast with jam for Grandma, and all together the meal came to just under $65, although my son had been given a voucher for his birthday, so we ended up paying just under $15.
This is one of the few places in Alice Springs that does not have endless loud music blasting at you. I am old fashioned, when I go out to share a meal with family and friends, I want to be able to enjoy the good conversation as much as the food. Piccolo’s also have self serve ice water dispensers, clean bathrooms, highchairs and a relaxed family friendly atmosphere.
Well worth a visit if you are in Alice Springs.
